PIXIE Lott does look a lot like a pixie but I can’t say that her album is anything magical.

After a slew of similar songs from artists like Katy Perry, my ears have somehow grown tired of pop numbers about broken hearts and secret outings.

No doubt her single Mama Do is a rather catchy track, with her oh-so-addictive “uh-ohs” giving the song a lot of soul. But I found listening to the rest of the album quite a chore because everything is so similar to the songs already cluttering the airwaves today. Almost nothing stands out, except for one or two that do after repeated listening.

Aside from Mama Do, I would plump for the ballad Nothing Compares (nope, nothing to do with Sinead O’Connor), which shows off Lott’s smooth vocals.

If you miss the sounds of 1990s British girl bands like Eternal or All Saints, you might just enjoy this one.
